Why eating on an empty stomach can be bad?

Why eating on an empty stomach can be bad? As humans, we tend to want food when we’re hungry , so that makes some sense, right? Also, our stomach growls and we reflexively look for something to eat . But what if I told you that eating on an empty stomach was bad for you?

Think about the last time you were hungry, I mean really hungry . Have you sat down with a balanced meal ? Probably not. When we get to the point where we say, “I’m so hungry I could eat anything!” we are likely to overdo any food we can get our hands on.

When your stomach is empty, your blood sugar levels drop, sometimes quickly. Because your body wants to take care of itself, it focuses on being fed whatever high-calorie food it can find. Have you ever noticed that your junk food cravings tend to be higher when you’re eating on an empty stomach ? And so.

An empty stomach can be filled with the wrong foods:

When you’re hungry , almost any food is good. But even after receiving the food and finishing eating , you feel the need to find more food, because you still don’t feel satisfied! The hungrier you are, the harder it will be to resist unhealthy foods like hamburgers , pizza , ice cream, candy , etc.Research on shoppers who go to the grocery store hungry has shown that they are much more likely to consume unhealthy foods . Hungry shopping can result in unhealthy meals for the rest of the week. Aner Tal from the Food and Brand Laboratory at Cornell University says:

“Hungry people tend to think of more calorie -dense foods that provide more energy, which affects the choice of foods they buy for the week. These foods can include red meat , sweets and snacks, in contrast to low-calorie foods such as chicken breasts, vegetables and fruits .”

Numerous reports lead to the same conclusion, best summarized by Samantha Heller, a senior clinical nutritionist at the NYU Langone Medican Center in New York, when the body is deprived of energy , it goes into survival mode.

When this happens, the natural response is to reach for high-calorie foods to replace lost calories and store them in the body in case of another famine . It’s like hibernation, but it only leads to weight gain and health problems.

Always be prepared with a snack:

If you know you have a bad habit of waiting until the last minute to eat , start with a healthy snack all the time. If you work at a desk, have some almonds or other protein – rich snacks from a drawer. When you feel hungry, grab a handful of walnuts to stave off that painful feeling of hunger .

If you feel like you don’t know where to start when it comes to stocking up on healthy snacks that aren’t just raw vegetables , this article might provide you with some great suggestions!

These snacks shouldn’t serve as meal replacements , necessarily, but as a way to calm hunger until you can have a balanced, healthy meal. When you have some form of alternative food at your fingertips, it becomes easier to eat well, even in a hurry.

Lunch:

So the next time you’re making your grocery list, make sure you provide healthy snacks that are easily portable, as well as foods you can turn into healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Not only will you feel healthier and less stressed  when you find something to eat on an empty stomach , you’ll be much happier with how you’re treating your body.
