Brilinta – what it is for, how to use it and side effects!

Brilinta belongs to a group of medicines called platelet aggregation inhibitors or antiplatelet agents. It is usually used along with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) after a heart attack or if you have angina (chest pain) to help prevent a stroke , another heart attack, or dying from heart disease.

It works by preventing the accumulation of platelets in the blood. Platelets are small fragments in the blood that clump together to stop bleeding when a blood vessel is damaged. Clots can also develop inside a damaged blood vessel and cause a stroke or heart attack.

What is brilliant ?

It prevents platelets in the blood from sticking together to form an unwanted blood clot that can block an artery. It  is used together with aspirin to lower the risk of having a stroke or serious heart problems after having had a heart attack or severe chest pain (angina).

It may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
