Chemosis – What it is, Causes and Treatments that many still don’t know. In addition, Chemosis  is swelling of the conjunctiva , tissue that covers the inner part of the eyelids and the white surface of the eye. When  chemosis  occurs, the eye may feel like it has liquid inside and it may even be difficult to close it.

Often the swelling can look like a blister on the outside of the eyeball, which usually frightens the patient and their companions, motivating the search for a specialist.

Often in Chemosis , the eye area swells up so much that the person cannot close their eyes properly.

Closely related to other allergies and eye infections, Chemosis can be the result of surgery or because the region is rubbed hard. Other causes of chemosis can be angioedema, a bacterial infection, or an allergic reaction to a substance.

Causes of Chemosis:  The most common causes of Chemosis  are:

• Angioedema :  Angioedema is also characterized as a swelling similar to urticaria, but it happens under the skin, urticaria, better known as Chemosis as welt, is a swelling on the surface of the skin and angioedema can occur without the presence of urticaria;
• Allergic reactions;
• Bacterial Infection:  Inflammation or infection of the membrane covering the eyelids (conjunctiva).
• Viral Infection: conjunctivitis.
• Food: It is already known that a large amount of food can cause serious allergic reactions such as: Milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, nuts, etc., varying according to each organism and its nature.
• Medications: Any medication can be a factor that causes angioedema: Painkillers, blood pressure medications, which are the most frequent.
• Allergies: Common everyday substances can trigger an allergy such as: flower pollen, animal hair, insect bites, chemicals (detergents), latex, etc.

Chemosis Treatment:  For any unknown sign or symptom, it is always advisable to seek the opinion of a clinical professional to really know the causes and symptoms of a possible chemosis . Only he has the knowledge to detect the true signs and evaluate the condition and treat Chemosis .

But there are some medications such as antihistamines that do not require a doctor’s prescription for use in relieving the symptoms of swelling, pain, and itching of Chemosis . Cold compresses often relieve symptoms caused by Chemosis . But never self-medicate without the certainty that the remedy is harmless no matter how natural and popular it may be.

Prevention of Chemosis:  Because the occurrence of Chemosis has different causes and origins, it is not possible to prescribe an isolated preventive conduct, without a detailed investigation of each case, but hygiene care can prevent its installation, such as:

• always wash your hands after having contact with microbial agents: (public transport, public environments).
• always try to keep living environments clean, especially if there is contact with animals to avoid excessive contact with dust, animal hair and other factors that trigger allergies.

Note:  Red and painful eyes are also a sign that a problem is occurring or a chemosis process in action.
