How to Treat Tuberculosis Effectively!

How to Treat Tuberculosis Effectively is quite simple, but it requires some effort. In addition, Tuberculosis is a contagious  infectious disease transmitted through the bacterium Mycobacterium Tuberculosis or Bacillus of Koch (BK).

Tuberculosis is considered by the Health Department to be an extremely contagious disease  , because in most cases, it is transmitted through the airways through the inhalation of contaminated particles through the cough , speech or sneeze of the patient with  Tuberculosis .

The Ministry of Health states that Tuberculosis is a serious public health  issue in Brazil, arising from various social problems. According to the Health Portal 70 thousand cases of tuberculosis are reported each year and there are 4.6 thousand deaths due to tuberculosis . According to data from the Ministry of Health, Brazil is in 17th place among a ranking of 22 countries responsible for 80% of all tuberculosis cases worldwide.

The same study showed a 38.7% decrease in the incidence of Tuberculosis and a 33.6% decrease in the mortality rate. After several campaigns and efforts to fight against Tuberculosis , each year the Ministry of Health observes a drop in the occurrence of the disease  that in the future can be controlled, no longer being a public health case  .

The Ministry of Health considers Tuberculosis a disease  derived from various social conditions. It is clear that the compromised immune system can lead to contagion, however, in most cases, Tuberculosis comes from lack of basic sanitation, drinking water, personal hygiene, vaccines, among other factors related to people’s living conditions. The following table demonstrates the risk of becoming infected with Tuberculosis in certain populations, compared to the standard population.

Causes of Tuberculosis:  Tuberculosis isusually caused by an infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Bacillus of Koch (BK). Other species of mycobacteria can also cause tuberculosis . They are: Mycobacterium bovis, africanum and microti.

Symptoms of Tuberculosis:  Among its symptoms, we can mention cough  with secretion, fever  (most commonly at dusk), night sweats, lack of appetite, weight loss, easy tiredness and muscle pain . Difficulty in breathing, elimination of blood (hemoptysis) and accumulation of secretion in the pulmonary pleura are characteristic in more severe cases.

How to Effectively Treat Tuberculosis:  Tuberculosis is treatedwith three different drugs: pyrazinamide, isoniazid and rifamycin. For two months, the patient takes all three drugs and, from the third month onwards, he takes only isoniazid and rifampicin.

The Tuberculosis bacillus grows outside and inside the defense cell. When it’s out, it not only multiplies very fast, but also acquires resistance very quickly. To prevent its growth and division outside the cell, the three drugs and the longer treatment time of Tuberculosis are necessary .

Inside the defense cell, it grows more slowly and the indication is to use a drug that penetrates the cell in order to block the growth of the bacteria inside it. Therefore, the drugs must be taken for six months.

An attempt has been made to reduce it to four months, but the relapse rate of Tuberculosis was very high. It is essential to strictly follow the treatment of Tuberculosis . What we tried to do, and with good results, to facilitate patient compliance was to prescribe higher doses to be taken only two days a week.
