Gonorrhea – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment that everyone should do. In addition,  Gonorrhea is a commonly sexually transmitted disease, sometimes referred to as “clap”. This affects thousands of men and women in the United States annually.

Gonorrhea is easily treated, but it can cause serious and sometimes permanent complications . Pelvic inflammatory disease occurs in women when the gonorrhea infection affects their uterus or fallopian tubes. The most serious complication associated with pelvic inflammatory disease is infertility. Complications in men with Gonorrhea include epididymitis (inflammation of the tube that carries sperm) and infertility.

Causes of  Gonorrhea:  Gonorrhea is caused by thebacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, also known as gonococcus. Any individual who has any sexual practice can contract Gonorrhea . The infection can be transmitted through oral, vaginal or anal contact.

The bacteria thrive in warm, moist areas of the body, including the channel that carries urine out of the body, the urethra. It is also found in the female reproductive system, which includes the fallopian tubes, uterus , and cervix . There is also transmission from mother to child during childbirth or when the child is still inside the uterus . In babies, Gonorrhea usually manifests itself mainly in the eyes , in the form of severe conjunctivitis, but there can also be disseminated infection.

Symptoms of Gonorrhea:  In most cases, Gonorrhea goes unnoticed. When there are symptoms, some are quite characteristic, especially in the genital region.

In the penis, the most common signs of gonorrhea are:

• Pain and burning when urinating.
• Abundant secretion of pus from the urethra.
• Pain or swelling in one of the testicles.

Already in the Vagina, the symptoms are:

• Increase in vaginal discharge, which becomes yellow in color and unpleasant odor.
• Pain and burning when urinating.
• Bleeding outside the menstrual period .
• Abdominal pain.
• Pelvic pain .

But gonorrhea can also appear in other parts of the body:

• Rectum: Common symptoms of gonorrhea in the anal area are itching, discharge of pus and bleeding.
• Eyes:  Pain, sensitivity to light, and discharge of pus in one or both eyes .
• Throat:  Pain and difficulty in swallowing, presence of yellowish plaques in the throat .
• Joints:  If the bacteria affect any joint in the body, it can become hot, red, swollen and very painful.

Treatment of Gonorrhea:  The diagnosis is basically clinical, with no need for specific laboratory tests. The treatment is very simple, in addition to hygiene measures, and the use of protection (condom/condom) includes the use of antibiotics, under medical prescription and the medication given in a single dose assisted by the doctor.

When left untreated, gonorrhea can affect multiple organs. In men, the infection reaches the testis and epididymis and can cause infertility. In women, it reaches the uterus , fallopian tubes and ovaries and causes an inflammatory process that, in addition to infertility, is responsible for a serious, sometimes fatal, complication called pelvic inflammatory disease .

To Prevent Spread:  Inform your sexual partner about the existence of the infection. Refrain from sexual intercourse until you finish the treatment and receive the approval of the doctor.

Make sure your sexual partner has also seen a doctor and treated if necessary before having sex again. Once you are healed and have sex again, use male or female latex condoms every time you have anal or vaginal sex.
