Peppermint Leaves for Toenail Ringworm: How to make, recipe and tips.

Today we will address here is an excellent alternative to eliminate this evil that affects millions of people around the world.

In addition, Onychomycosis popularly known as Nail Mycosis , is the name given to the nail infection caused by fungi.

Nail fungus is usually caused by infection of the toenails (  most common) or of the hands , by a microscopic fungus.

Nail fungus mainly develops in a humid and warm environment.

The fact of being in crowded environments (showers, swimming pools, etc.) can also favor the development of Nail Mycosis .

You should know that ringworm  is often difficult to treat .

Onychomycosis is a common infection that affects about 10% of the adult population and 20% of the elderly.

Its symptoms are usually more of aesthetic than clinical origin, with darkening and thickening of the nail being the most common signs.

What is Nail Fungus

As already explained, Onychomycosis is an infection of the toenails or hands caused by fungi.

Fungal nail  infections are usually caused by a fungus that belongs to a group called dermatophytes, which can also cause infections of the body hair and skin , as in the case of chilblains (athlete’s foot).

Another group of fungi that can also cause ringworm are yeasts.

In general, yeasts cause hand onychomycosis and dermatophytes cause  toenail onychomycosis  .

Symptoms of Nail Fungus

Your symptoms can vary greatly, see:

  • We can say that one of the signs of  Nail Mycosis  can be the variation of the nail color , as it can have an opaque or white part, or other colors such as yellow, green, etc.
  • The nail may also be slightly detached, so we speak of onycholysis.
  • In certain cases, variations in nail thickness or texture (friable appearance) may occur.
  • It is also possible to observe different stages in  Nail Mycosis , from a small stain to a completely damaged nail . The doctor will choose the best treatment depending on the stage of Nail Mycosis .

Ways of Contagion:

  • Contact with pets;
  • In public showers;
  • Foot washing in swimming pools, beaches and saunas;
  • Walking barefoot on damp or public floors;
  • Use of shared or poorly washed towels;
  • Commonly used parts (boots, gloves);
  • Wearing other people’s clothes and shoes;
  • Use of cuticle pliers, scissors and non-sterile sandpaper;
  • Wearing damp clothes for a long time;

Nail Fungus Treatment:

Over-the-counter creams and ointments rarely work to treat this condition.

Medical treatment usually consists of a combination of a topical antifungal and the use of an oral antifungal medication.

The oral medication should be taken for at least 2 to 3 months for toenails  and a shorter time for fingernails  , as per the guidance of your doctor.

However, topical treatment can last from 8 to 12 months for toenails  and 6 to 8 months for fingernails  .

This is the time a nail  needs to fully regenerate, when the infection has colonized the entire nail bed.

Keep in mind that patience is key to curing Onychomycosis .

It is important to point out that, when the nail  is completely removed, it is unlikely that it will be born again, unless the matrix has been preserved.

Even in these cases, the nail  will grow back in a slow process of evolution that can take several months.

On the other hand, there is also the possibility of eliminating  Nail Mycosis with a laser, but always according to the dermatologist’s guidance.
