This recipe is a great natural remedy to soothe sore throats and stop coughing during this cold and flu season. For most of us with a healthy immune system, facing a cold means we more or less have to resist it while it runs its course. This makes the cold season a great time to dip your toes in making homemade lemon cough syrup .

Since you’re already going to suffer from snot anyway, the risk is relatively low here. Also, the worst that can happen if the herbal remedy doesn’t work for your cold symptoms is that you feel exactly as you would!

Should You Really Suppress Your Cough at Home?

We live in a culture where most of us want to quickly get through all the bad things in life, including common illnesses. We just want to hurry past the part where we feel gross! But remember not all coughs are bad.

In fact, our body starts coughing for a reason, usually to help us clear mucus from the respiratory system. If the cough  caused by a cold is productive and doesn’t negatively affect your life (such as causing lack of sleep), most healthcare professionals suggest not suppressing it.

Be sure to have it run by your healthcare professional if you are on the fence about your cough . For that reason, this homemade lemon thyme honey cough syrup is not designed to suppress coughing.

While it helps to calm a cough , so coughing fits aren’t as violent, the calming properties work in tandem with the expectorant properties to try to get the mud off your body smoothly!

I usually brush my teeth quickly to protect the enamel on my teeth as the mixture is quite acidic. This is not something you want to sit around all day.
