Cyclobenzaprine – what it is for, how to use it and side effects!

Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride is intended for the treatment of muscle spasms with acute and painful musculoskeletal conditions. Such as low back pain, torticollis, scapulohumeral periarthritis, cervicobrachialgia and in the treatment of fibromyalgia. In addition, it is indicated as an adjunct to other measures to relieve symptoms, such as physiotherapy and rest.

Uses of Cyclobenzaprine :

It is used short term to treat muscle and skin spasms . It is usually used along with rest and physical therapy. It works by helping to relax the muscles.

How to use cyclobenzaprine :

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually 3 times a day.
Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. This medication should only be used on a short-term basis (for 3 weeks or less) unless directed by your doctor. Do not increase the dose or use this medication more often or for longer than prescribed. Your medical problem will not improve any faster and your risk of side effects will increase.

Tell your doctor if the problem persists after 2 to 3 weeks or if it gets worse with water .

Cyclobenzaprine side effects :

Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation or tiredness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Remember that your doctor prescribed this medication because he thought the benefit to you outweighed the risk of side effects. Many people who use this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: fast, irregular heartbeat, mental and mood changes (such as confusion, hallucinations), and difficulty urinating.

A very serious allergic reaction to this remedy is rare. However, seek medical help immediately if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and difficulty breathing.

Cyclobenzaprine precautions :

Before taking Cyclobenzaprine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which may cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), heart problems (such as irregular heartbeat, heart block, heart failure and recent heart attack), difficulty urinating (such as due to an enlarged prostate) and glaucoma.

This remedy may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy or sleepy. Do not drive, use machines, or do anything else that needs attention until you can safely run. Avoid alcoholic beverages.

Talk to your doctor if you are using marijuana.
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all products used (including prescription, over-the-counter and herbal products).

Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, especially drowsiness, confusion, constipation, or difficulty urinating. Drowsiness and confusion can increase the risk of falling.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk. However, similar remedies pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

Cyclobenzaprine interactions :

Drug interactions can change the way your medications work or increase your risk of serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions.

Keep a list of all products used (including prescription, over-the-counter and herbal products) and share with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medication without your doctor’s approval. Some products that may interact with this medication include: tricyclic antidepressants (such as amitriptyline, imipramine).

Taking MAO inhibitors with this medication can cause a serious (possibly fatal) drug interaction. Avoid taking inhibitors (isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, tranylcypromine) during treatment with this medication.

Most of these inhibitors should also not be taken for two weeks before treatment with this medication. Ask your doctor when to start or stop taking this medicine.

Before using this medication, report use of medications that increase serotonin, including certain antidepressants and tramadol, among others.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other products that cause drowsiness, such as opioids for pain or coughing (such as codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana, sleeping or anxiety medications (such as alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), other muscle relaxants ( such as carisoprodol, methocarbamol) or antihistamines (such as cetirizine, diphenhydramine).

Check the labels of all your medications (such as allergy or cough and cold products) as they may contain ingredients that cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about using these products safely.

Overdose of cyclobenzaprine :

If someone overdoses and has severe symptoms, such as fainting or difficulty breathing, call 911. Symptoms of overdose may include: fast and irregular heartbeat, fainting, severe sleepiness, slurred speech, seizures, mental and mood changes (such as confusion, hallucinations).

Grades:

• Do not share this medicine with others.
• Also, this medication was prescribed only for the current problem.
• Do not use later for another condition unless your doctor advises you.
• Also, a different medication may be required in this case.

Missed dose:

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Also, if it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage:

Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Also, keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets.

Do not flush medications down the toilet or down a drain unless recommended. Also, dispose of this product properly when it expires or is no longer needed.
