Breast Fibroadenoma – What it is, Causes, Symptoms and Treatments!

Breast Fibroadenoma – What it is, Causes, Symptoms and Treatments  and much more is what you will learn from now on, so stay with us and unravel everything about Breast Fibroadenoma , a disease  that is so dangerous. Also, finding a lump in the breast can be a frightening experience, but not all lumps are cancerous tumors.

One type of benign (non-cancerous) tumor is called a Fibroadenoma of the Breast . Although not life threatening, a Fibroadenoma of the Breast  may still require treatment.

Breast  Fibroadenoma  is a benign breast tumor that are commonly found in women  under 30. According to Mammotome, Breast Fibroadenoma are diagnosed in about 10 percent of women in the United States (Mammotome). African American women are more likely to develop these tumors.

The tumor comprises breast tissue and  connective  (stroma) tissue. According with the doctor. David Zieve PubMed, while most women have a tumor, only 10 to 15 percent of women  have multiple tumors (PubMed). Breast fibroadenoma  can occur in one or both breasts.

What is Breast Fibroadenoma: Breast  Fibroadenoma is  the most common benign breast tumor. It is estimated that millions of women  are annually diagnosed with this type of tumor worldwide. Breast Fibroadenoma  is often diagnosed during routine examinations and doctors often have to distinguish between a Breast Fibroadenoma and breast cancer, a distinction that can sometimes be difficult.

In order to try to facilitate this type of diagnosis, researchers from the National Cancer Center Singapore, the Singapore School of Medicine and the Singapore General Hospital tried to identify if there were any genetic abnormalities in the Breast Fibroadenoma  that could be used to differentiate it. .

Causes:  The exact cause  of Breast Fibroadenoma  is not known. Hormones such as estrogen can play an important role in the growth and development of tumors.

Taking oral contraceptives before age 20 has been linked to a higher risk of developing  Fibroadenoma of the Breast . These tumors can grow, especially during pregnancy . During menopause, they are often reduced. It is also possible for the  Breast Fibroadenoma to go  away on its own.

Types of Breast Fibroadenoma:  There are two types of  Breast Fibroadenoma :

  • 1.  Simple breast fibroadenoma  . Simple tumors do not increase the risk of breast cancer ( cancer ) and look the same when viewed under a microscope.
  • 2.  Fibroadenoma of the breast  complex. Complex tumors contain other components, such as macrocysts (fluid-filled sacs large enough to be felt and seen without a microscope), enlarged lobules, calcifications (  calcium deposits ), papilloma, or hyperplasia.

Complex tumors may slightly increase the risk of  breast  cancer. The American Cancer Society says that  women  with  Fibroadenoma of the Breast  have an approximately 1-1.5 times greater risk of developing  breast  cancer than  women  who do not have lumps.

Symptoms:  Breast  Fibroadenoma  is usually an individual lump, but about 10-15% of  women  have multiple lumps that can affect both breasts. The node can be:

  • Easily mobile under the  skin , unlike  breast  cancer which is fixed;
  • Solid;
  • Painless;
  • Elastic;

The nodules have well-defined and smooth boundaries. They can grow in size, especially during pregnancy. Breast Fibroadenoma often   gets smaller after menopause (if a  woman  is not taking hormone replacement therapy).

As you can see, the symptoms of  breast  cancer are different from  Fibroadenoma of the Breast . A  Breast Fibroadenoma feels  like a marble inside the chest during self-examination. You may have one or more  Breast Fibroadenoma .

Breast cyst and Breast  Fibroadenoma  can be painful, but  breast  cancer is rare, even if the  pain  does not exclude the possibility of  breast  cancer.

Chest  pain   accompanied by redness, warmth, or nipple discharge may indicate an infection (secretions may also indicate  breast  cancer or a benign tumor).
Other causes of chest pain can be injuries or  swelling . It should be remembered that  breast pain  that does not originate in the breast includes various causes such as:

  • Tietze syndrome (  intercostal pain  under the breast that may be related to excessive muscle tension)
  • Cervical disc herniation
  • rib fracture,
  •  Mondor’s disease ( pain  in the lower part of the breast from an inflammation of a vein within the breast tissue)
  • Angina,
  • gallbladder inflammation,
  • Hiatus hernia,
  • Peptic ulcer.

Breast  Fibroadenoma  that occurs during adolescence is called  Juvenile Breast Fibroadenoma  . It can quickly swell to about 10 cm in diameter.

Treatments:  In many cases,  Fibroadenoma of the Breast  does not require any treatment, however, it may be necessary to surgically remove it, or the patient himself ends up opting for surgery for aesthetic reasons.

Non-surgical method:  Surgery is usually not recommended when the doctor does not believe that the  Breast Fibroadenoma  may pose any risk or discomfort to the patient – even because, in many cases, it tends to disappear without the need for treatment.

In this case, the ideal is for the person to constantly monitor the size and shape of  the Breast Fibroadenoma  through routine consultation and periodic examinations. In case of changes, surgery may be necessary.

Surgical method:  The doctor may recommend removing the  Fibroadenoma from the Breast  surgically if one of the tests – clinical, imaging or biopsy – shows an abnormal result. In this case, the procedure usually includes lumpectomy or excisional biopsy, that is, the surgeon removes the breast tissue and sends it for laboratory analysis.

But beware, after a  Breast Fibroadenoma  is removed it is possible for others to develop. New nodules should always be analyzed by the doctor through the results of imaging tests and possible biopsy. The biopsy clears the doubt whether it is a  Fibroadenoma of the Breast  or  breast  cancer.
