Cipro – what is it for, how to use it and the harm of using it!

Cipro is a drug that is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, it belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for virus infections (like common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when not needed can make it not work for future infections.

How to use cipro :

Read the leaflet provided by your pharmacist before starting cipro and whenever you receive a new shipment. If in any doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually twice a day, morning and evening.

The tablet may taste bitter if you split, chew or crush it before taking it. The manufacturer recommends swallowing the tablet whole for this reason. Dosage and duration of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medicine, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Take this medication at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking other products that may bind to it, decreasing its effectiveness. Ask your pharmacist about the other products you usually consume. Some examples include: quinapril, sevelamer, sucralfate, vitamins/minerals (including iron and zinc supplements) and products containing magnesium, aluminum or calcium (such as antacids, didanosine solution, calcium supplements).

Cipro side effects :

Nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and difficulty sleeping may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Remember that your doctor prescribed this drug because he thought the benefit outweighed the risk of side effects. Many people who use this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: bleeding, signs of a new infection (such as fever and persistent sore throat), signs of kidney problems (such as a change in the amount of urine, red/pink urine), signs of liver problems (such as unusual tiredness, abdominal/stomach pain, persistent nausea/vomiting, yellow eyes/ skin , dark urine) water .

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: diabetes , heart problems (such as a recent heart attack), joint/tendon problems (such as tendinitis, bursitis), kidney disease, liver disease, mental disorders/ mood (such as depression), myasthenia gravis, nerve problems (such as peripheral neuropathy), seizures, conditions that increase the risk of seizures (such as brain injury, brain tumors, cerebral atherosclerosis).

This medicine may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor immediately if you are burned or if you have skin blisters/redness.

Ciprofloxacin can make live bacterial vaccines (such as the typhoid vaccine) not work either. Do not get immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication unless your doctor recommends it. Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all products used (including prescription, over-the-counter and herbal products).

  • Children may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medicine, especially if they have joint or tendon problems.
  • Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially with tendon problems and QT prolongation.
  • During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • This medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

This medicine can delay the removal of other medicines from your body, which can affect the way they work. In addition, examples of drugs that may interact include duloxetine, pirfenidone, tasimelteon, tizanidine, among others.

Avoid drinking large amounts of beverages that contain caffeine (coffee, tea, colas), eating large amounts of chocolate or over-the-counter products that contain caffeine. Additionally, this remedy may enhance and/or prolong the effects of caffeine .

While most antibiotics are unlikely to affect hormonal birth control, such as pills, patch, or ring, some antibiotics (such as rifampicin, rifabutin) may decrease their effectiveness. This can result in pregnancy. Also, if you use hormonal birth control, ask your doctor or pharmacist for details.

Drug overdose:

If someone overdoses and has severe symptoms, such as fainting or difficulty breathing, call 911.
