Niacin Deficiency , known as pellagra, occurs when you do not consume enough niacin or cannot absorb it as a requirement of the body. Niacin , or vitamin B3 , makes up the group of B vitamins. It is a water-soluble (water-soluble) vitamin essential for the reactions involved in producing energy from food. in addition, the absorption of niacin occurs in the small intestine, but the excess of this vitamin is not stored, but eliminated in the urine.

Causes of Niacin Deficiency: Niacin is needed for many vital bodily functions. So, you must consume an adequate amount or take a supplement. Niacin deficiency usually happens due to bad eating habits such as less consumption of fruits and vegetables. Niacin deficiency is a very serious problem, and it should be treated with natural foods or dietary supplements.

Skin Problems: Niacin deficiency can cause inflammation of the skin , which becomes red, hard, scaly, painful cracking and itchy. It also swells and develops blisters in later stages. Bleeding can occur in the blackened crusts. Then the skin becomes thick and hyper-pigmented. This is mainly seen on the back of the hands.

  • Niacin loss occurs due to cooking and food storage, especially in corn and sorghum.
  • Take supplements to increase niacin levels in the body.
