Periodontitis- Causes, Symptoms and Treatment!

Periodontitis – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment. In addition,  periodontal disease is a disease that is characterized as a set of inflammatory conditions , of a chronic nature, and of bacterial origin, which begins by affecting the gingival tissue and can lead, over time, to the loss of the supporting tissues of the teeth . . The microorganisms responsible for these events are present in dental plaque.

Periodontal disease can compromise both the supporting tissues ( gingiva ) and the supporting tissues (cementum, periodontal ligament and bone) of the teeth . Then check out Periodontitis- Causes, Symptoms and Treatment.

Symptoms of Periodontitis: Periodontal disease is not always painful, so it is important to be aware of any of the symptoms below:

  • Gums  that bleed easily when brushing or flossing
  • Swollen  , red or painful gums;
  •  retracted gum ;
  • Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth;
  • Softened tooth;
  • Partial dentures that became misfit;
  • Visible pus around the teeth  and gums ;
  • Sharp pains when chewing food;
  • teeth  overly sensitive to cold or hot temperatures.

Causes of Periodontitis:  The causes of periodontitis occurs when gingivitis , which is the inflammation  and infection of the gums , is not treated or when its treatment is delayed. Infectious and inflammatory conditions  pass from the gums  to the ligaments and bones that support the teeth .

The loss of this support causes the teeth  to become loose and end up falling out. Periodontitis is the leading cause of tooth loss  in adults. This problem is not common in childhood but increases during adolescence.

Bacterial plaque and tartar  build up at the base of the teeth . Inflammation causes a pocket to develop between the gums  and teeth . This inflammation , over time, ends up causing the destruction of the tissues and bones that surround the  teeth .

As plaque contains bacteria, infection is likely as well, which can lead to the development of a tooth abscess, increasing the rate of bone destruction.

Periodontitis Treatment : Periodontitis treatments are to reduce inflammation , eliminate pockets (if any) and treat theunderlying causes of periodontitis . Rough surfaces of teeth  or dental appliances should be repaired if they are suspected to be facilitating periodontitis . Periodontitis and underlying causes and other disorders possibly involved must be treated.

It is important to clean your teeth  carefully. This may involve using various instruments or appliances to remove plaque and tartar buildup  from your teeth . Routine, meticulous, at-home oral hygiene is required after professional tooth cleaning to prevent further destruction.

The dentist will demonstrate better brushing techniques and teach correct flossing. It is recommended that patients with causes of  periodontitis have professional dental cleaning more than twice a year.
