Fever – What is it, Causes and Symptoms!

Fever – What it is, Causes and Symptoms that everyone should know. In addition, Fever is also known as hyperthermia, pyrexia or high temperature. Fever  describes a higher than normal body temperature .

Fever can affect children and adults. A short-term rise in temperature can help your body fight off illness. However, a severe fever can be a symptom of a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention.

Cause of Fever:  Fever occurs when an area in your brain called the hypothalamus senses an invasion of microorganisms, reacts by shifting your normal body temperature. Normal body temperature varies throughout the day, being lowest in the morning and highest in the late afternoon and early evening.

Most people consider 37°C to be a normal temperature, but it can vary a little less, being between 36.6° and 37.8°C. Factors such as menstrual cycle or heavy exercise can affect body temperature.

Fever Can Be Caused By:

  • Virus.
  • Bacterial infection.
  • Insolation.
  • Sunburn.
  • Certain inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis .
  • Malignant tumor.
  • Some medications and drugs such as antibiotics used to treat high blood pressure or seizures.
  • Adverse reaction to some vaccines.
  • Dehydration.

Sometimes the cause of a fever cannot be identified. If the patient is an adult and has a body temperature of 38.3°C or higher for three weeks and the doctor is unable to find the cause after extensive evaluation, the diagnosis may be Fever of unknown origin.

Symptoms of Fever:  A symptom is something that patients report feeling, while a sign is something that other people, including a doctor, can detect. For example, a headache can be a symptom, while a rash can be a sign. When someone has a fever , signs and symptoms are related to what is known as illness behavior, and can include:

  • Cold feeling when no one else is cold.
  • Shake.
  • Lack of appetite.
