Betony – what it is, what it is for and side effects!

Betony is a plant, the parts that grow above the ground are dried and used to make medicine, it is used for digestion problems including heartburn. In addition,  diarrhea and intestinal gas; for respiratory problems including bronchitis and asthma…

…for painful problems including gout, headache and facial pain; and for urinary tract conditions. Also, including bladder and kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) and bladder pain and swelling (inflammation). It is also used to treat stress and tension, nervousness and epilepsy .

In combination with other herbs, betony  is used to treat nerve pain (neuralgia) and anxiety . Additionally, the chemicals present in betony are believed to lower blood pressure , and this suggests that this plant may be useful in treating headache and anxiety .

The plant appears to lower blood pressure . Taking it  along with high blood pressure medications can cause your blood pressure to drop . Some high blood pressure medications include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Betony side effects :

There is not enough information about the plant to know if it is safe to take. Also, it can cause stomach upset in some people.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: There is no reliable information about the safety of consuming the plant  when you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid using.

Low blood pressure (hypotension): Betony can lower blood pressure . Also, it can cause blood pressure to drop in people prone to low blood pressure .
