Chills – What is it, Causes, Symptoms and Treatments of this condition. Also, Chill is a feeling of cold  that is accompanied by shivering or shaking. It is a sensation that can occur when we feel cold , as in environments with low temperatures. In these cases, the problem is not of concern and is remedied by moving to a warmer environment or wearing warm clothes.

Increasing the set point causes the body temperature to rise (pyrexia), but it also causes the patient to feel cold , until the new set point is reached. Chills  occur because the patient ‘s body is effectively seized by shivers in a physiological attempt to raise the body’s temperature to the new set point.

Causes: Chills can be caused by a wide variety of infectious diseases, some of which are common, such as the flu . In some cases, Chills  can be due to an inflammatory condition, such as an allergic reaction or an autoimmune disease, such as lupus.

Chills  and fever can also accompany certain types of cancer  , but they can also be a symptom of a serious or life-threatening illness that should be immediately evaluated in an emergency scenario, such as hypothermia, which is an abnormally low body temperature.

Symptoms: Chills usually  have no symptoms, in fact, Chills  can be a symptom related to various health problems. Chillsare an indication that there is a fever  , being common in diseases such as heat stroke, malaria, flu  and other infections .

Diagnosis: In order to have an accurate diagnosis of what is causing the Chills , your doctor will ask you a few questions about your symptoms. You can help your doctor diagnose the underlying cause of Chills by providing complete answers to these questions:

  • How long have you had this condition?
  • Did you have a fever ? If so, how high was the fever ?
  • Have you been exposed to cold temperatures or cold water without proper protection or clothing?
  • What other symptoms do you have?

Treatment: When you have Chills  , it is advisable to try to dress warmly, but taking a temperature is also a prudent attitude. If there is a fever , you should take a slightly warm bath and avoid staying in hot places or under a blanket, for example.

If the Chills  become constant, you should go to the doctor, as it may be related to some disease that needs treatment.

Prevention: The best alternative to prevent Chills is to avoid staying in cold places for a long time. Dressing as warmly as possible is also a great way to avoid Chills .
