Brown rice – what it is, benefits and how to prepare it!

Brown rice is unpolished white rice that  retains unsaturated fatty acids, proteins, minerals, vitamins and starch, which are removed during polishing. It is eaten as food and used as medicine. Brown rice is used for diarrhea , upset stomach and other stomach problems, fluid retention.

Intestinal worms, yellowing of the skin ( jaundice ), thiamine deficiency (beriberi), burns, nosebleeds, fever, vomiting, inflammation , paralysis, hemorrhoids and psoriasis and other skin conditions. It is also used as an appetite stimulant, drying agent (astringent), soothing agent (emollient) and tonic.

How to prepare brown rice?

Rice takes longer to cook and requires more water because of its fiber outer coating . For a cup of rice, you can use two and a half to three cups of water. Soaking brown rice  before cooking reduces cooking time. Also, soaked rice takes about 35-40 minutes to cook.
