Barakat Syndrome – What is it, Symptoms and Treatments  best suited to deal with this condition. In addition,  Barakat Syndrome , also known as HDR Syndrome, is a genetic disorder that affects individuals of all ages, first described by J. Barakat Amin et al., in 1977. To date, the incidence of this disorder is unknown; however, it is known to be very rare.

Barakat Syndrome is an inherited disorder consisting of hypoparathyroidism, sensorineural deafness and kidney disease . The exact prevalence is unknown, but the disease is considered very rare, with about two dozen patients described so far.

Symptoms of Barakat Syndrome:

  • Nephrotic syndrome;
  • Mild to severe hearing loss;
  • chronic kidney disease;
  • Febrile convulsions;
  • Renal dysplasia, hypoplasia or aplasia;
  • Vesicoureteral reflux;
  • tetany ;
  • Hematuria, proteinuria and renal scarring;
  • Cystic kidney .

Treatments for Barakat Syndrome:  The treatment is multidisciplinary and consists of treating clinical abnormalities associated with hypoparathyroidism, deafness, kidney disease according to the patient’s symptomatic presentations. The severity depends on the kidney disease presented.

  • Correction of clinical abnormalities presented;
  • Symptomatic to control the main symptoms.
